Child & Youth Worker in OACYC

Hello, I'm MONIQUE.

Green Line

I am a registered Child and Youth Worker with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC). I support caregivers and parents as they actualize the skills, insights, and relationships that allow them to lead more peaceful and empowered lives with their children. Parenting can be life’s most challenging experience but also one of the most rewarding experiences. Parents play a critical role in shaping their children’s lives and futures and my role is to guide and help parents and children grow together.

I’ve been supporting children, youth, and their families since 1989. I’ve worked intensively in the school systems, social services, and the mental health sectors. I provide coaching and support for parents and caregivers by addressing challenging behaviors, teaching encouraging nurturing, and repairing family relationships. Parents are supported in accessing perspectives and skills that empower them to connect deeply with their children and navigate challenging moments.

During our sessions, you will learn to be more effective in your parenting style. You will boost your child self-esteem, catch your child being good, set limits and be consistent with your discipline, make time for your kids, avoid power struggles, provide strong role modeling, and make communication a priority, demonstrate flexibility, and adjust your parenting style to meet your child’s needs. In our sessions, you will also learn: structure, routine, predictability, and follow-through, promoting positive behavior, effective direction, active listening, validating and emotion coaching, emotional regulation, calming methods, de-escalation techniques, implementing consequences, and attachment, and connection strategies based on the Circle of Security Model of Secure parenting.
